Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian
Eau de parfum
You will not forget it, if you smell it once.
In the style of French classic perfumery, Baccarat Rouge 540 is a fragrance that you instantly recognize. I think it may very well become a modern-day classic. Apparently it is currently Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s best-selling fragrance, which doesn’t surprise me at all.
The scent of Baccarat crystal
Baccarat Rouge 540 does not reveal its notes. It is hard for me to make out any particular note, or even categorize this perfume. There is a woody accord, but I would rather say that Baccarat Rouge is in the class of modern conceptual fragrances.
This perfume makes me feel determined, in high spirits, and collected. I imagine a hall or a ball room. In this beautifully decorated open space people are gathered in the early evening or late afternoon. The event is not too formal, yet it’s a posh setting. They mingle enjoying a glass of champagne. Every one is elegantly dressed, but not in a soirée kind of way. I look up to see the sparkling Baccarat chandeliers.
I gather from the general consensus that people smell sweet candy or burnt sugar when they smell Baccarat Rouge. I don’t get a sense of anything eatable when I smell it. To me it’s actually an abstract sweet metallic scent. It is both transparent and deep. Baccarat Rouge is a modern take on a classic perfume. It makes me think of perfumes in the 80’s and the 90’s that would last all day long and had their very distinctive scent and lots of character.
The longevity of Baccarat Rouge 540 is great. My skin is very peculiar. Fragrances tend to soften on me. That is why I really appreciate long-lasting perfumes, and stronger scents. Baccarat Rouge is very long-lasting. It softens to a skin scent on me, although I can smell it from my clothes, and it stays on my skin for at least ten hours. I was quite impressed by its longevity. I generally forget about my perfume when I am wearing it. When wearing Baccarat Rouge 540, I am very much aware all the time that I am wearing this beautiful, expensive fragrance, even though it wears quite close to my skin. This perfume is linear, but it is not a scent that I get bored of, or annoyed by. It is actually quite addictive.
When? Where? Who?
I think it is a completely unisex perfume, but since I’m a girl, I would like to talk about which women I see wearing it. I think it’s a very Parisian fragrance. I think that French women probably like it very much, and it suits them very well. It is chic and sassy. If you have a job where you meet different people all the time, it would be a perfect signature fragrance. Other people will get whiffs of Baccarat Rouge as you move, and the next time they meet you, they will surely remember you and your perfume. I think that you can wear it all year long, to all occasions, and it is particularly nice in the cold and grey weather because it has a vibrant character, and it makes you feel uplifted.
N.B. I was reviewing a sample of Baccarat Rouge 540. I don’t actually own a bottle of this perfume.
