I have been lucky to receive the full line of fragrances in samples by Art de Parfum – a perfume house out of London that was created in 2015 by a Lithuanian-born Ruta Degutyte. Ruta has travelled the world and has been working in Sydney as a business consultant before she has taken the leap to pursue her dream to make her own perfumes. Art de Parfum fragrances reflect the inspirations and ideals of the house founder, with a focus on quality raw materials sourced from all over the world. These perfumes are also created with ethical care for our environment.
The name of the house Art de Parfum translates the idea of perfume creation seen as an art form by the French. I certainly recognize perfume as an art form which prompts the concept of Art de Vivre – the elegance and sophistication in our every day life. Art de Parfum fragrances are inspired by French culture, and are meant to inspire the effortless French chic. It is the simple elegance, versatility, and a ‘je ne sais quoi’ allure that Ruta Degutyte wanted to convey with these perfumes.
The fragrances that I liked the most, Signature Wild and Gin and Tonic, do indeed reflect refined simple elegance and versatility. Feeling inclined to conform to traditional paradigms, I personally see these two fragrances as more masculine than feminine. In fact, Signature Wild is a fragrance marketed towards men, while Gin and Tonic has the world cologne in the title, and colognes are classically associated with splashy fragrances for men.
All the Art de Parfum fragrances have the extrait de parfum concentration, thus being very well long-lasting.
Top Notes: cinnamon, davana, cardamom
Heart Notes: orange blossom, dried fruits, radiant woods
Basenotes: amber, leather, sandalwood
I see both Signature Wild and Gin and Tonic as rejuvenating fragrances for men. Signature Wild is the deeper, and the darker leather perfume, whereas Gin and Tonic is a bright summer fragrance. However, Signature Wild has an overall light texture, which creates an interesting juxtaposition with the deep notes of this perfume.
Signature Wild is a unique leather scent because it has a very particular spicy-woody, and almost herbal quality. The composition is actually centered around Davana (Dhavanam) essential oil that is distilled from the flowers and leaves of Artemisia. It gives it a pleasantly tangy aromatic aspect.
It starts out very spicy, invigoratingly fresh and slightly boozy. There is a sort of a herbal side right in the beginning. As it develops I smell the blond wood notes, while the orange blossom gives a lift to the deeper notes. I also get a subtle hint of dried fruits in the development. I loved how this fragrance developed to a deep amber, leather, and sandalwood base.
The reason that I think it’s a rejuvenating men’s perfume is that it never feels heavy, although the overall impression is quite masculine and vigorous. I also think that this fragrance is very versatile in terms of wear – occasions and seasons.
I have found the perfect photo association for this classy masculine leather perfume.

Gin and Tonic Cologne
Top Notes: juniper berry, grapefruit, lemon zest, cucumber peel
Heart Notes: gin & tonic accord
Basenotes: ambergris note, cedar wood, vetiver, white musk
I am ashamed to admit it, but I have never drank a gin and tonic in my life, and I have a vague recollection of what gin actually smells like.
I have to say that Cologne is just part of the name of this fragrance, but actually it is an extrait de parfum concentration. Gin and Tonic cologne is a zesty aromatic fragrance with a boozy note. Although modern in its style, it has the appeal of a traditional cologne. Gin and Tonic puts me in a summer mood on the French Riviera. I picture man on a yacht wearing a straw Borselino, a white linen shirt, and he is holding a gin and tonic cocktail in his hands.
It starts out so fresh and bright that it is almost assaulting to my nose. After this initial blast of chilling freshness, I immediately get a bitter, herbal accent which is very energizing. The gin and tonic accord in the heart of this fragrance is what makes it special, creating the impression of a cool summer cocktail in your hands. I like the boozy notes in fragrances, but sometimes they are almost too much for me. The gin and tonic accord here is nicely balanced. From the highly energizing top notes, this perfume mellows down with deeper base notes, but it always smells fresh.
